Social media has made it possible for us to peek into the lives of others like never before. We can connect with long lost friends, acquaintances, and cyber-friends we’ve only met online. We can follow celebrities, musicians, and any number of influencers.

What is it about spirituality that keeps us leaning toward it? Some of us even long for it, regardless of whether we embrace routine fellowship in stained-glassed churches or solitary strolls in the temple of nature.

In our achievement-oriented society, failure is not viewed positively. Employers, teachers, parents, and others praise success. Some people are supportive and empathetic when someone fails at any given task. Many people are not, however.

The struggle for control is at the heart of codependency. Codependency means that we care so much about keeping the peace that we will do whatever it takes to avoid making someone else angry or upset. We give our power away.
